Offbeat Leh Ladakh with Hanle & Tso Moriri

If you’ve already ticked off Pangong and Nubra, it’s time to level up your Ladakh game. This 6-day offbeat adventure by Avian Experiences takes you deep into Ladakh’s lesser-known but jaw-droppingly beautiful regions—perfect for seasoned explorers and those seeking solitude away from crowded trails.
Start with iconic views of Magnetic Hill and Sangam Point in Sham Valley before heading to the remote village of Hanle, nestled near the Indo-China border. Hanle is not just peaceful—it’s surreal, with open landscapes, barely-there roads, and one of the clearest skies in India, ideal for stargazing.
Next, make your way to Tso Moriri, a high-altitude lake known for its turquoise waters, migratory birds, and complete lack of tourist hustle. The route includes the saltwater basin of Tso Kar and the breathtaking Tanglang La Pass, one of the world’s highest motorable roads.
With carefully spaced out night halts in Leh (2N), Hanle (1N), Tso Moriri (1N), and Leh again (1N), the trip allows for comfortable acclimatization and immersive experiences. If you’re looking for Ladakh’s wild, quiet side—this is it.

Top choices for Ladakh’s rough terrains: Royal Enfield Himalayan – Perfect for off-road riding. Royal Enfield Classic 500 – Reliable and sturdy. Bajaj Dominar 400 – Comfortable for long-distance rides. KTM Adventure 390 – Lightweight and powerful. Tip: Get your bike serviced before the trip & carry spare parts like clutch cables, tubes, and brake pads.

Yes! Inner Line Permit (ILP) is required for: Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, Turtuk & Tso Moriri Where to get it? Apply online at the Leh DC website or get it from the Tourist Office in Leh.

Not ideal for first-time bikers! You’ll ride on steep passes, river crossings, and gravel roads. Off-road experience is recommended before attempting Ladakh’s extreme routes. If you’re a beginner, start with Manali to Leh before taking on Nubra & Pangong.

Ladakh is at high altitude (11,500+ ft), and AMS is common. Acclimatize for at least 2 days in Leh before heading to Nubra or Pangong. Stay hydrated, eat light, and avoid alcohol. Carry Diamox (after doctor’s advice) if prone to AMS. Don’t rush your itinerary. Altitude sickness can hit even the fittest travelers!

Fuel stations are limited! Leh has multiple petrol pumps. Diskit (Nubra Valley) has one fuel station, but it's not always reliable. Carry extra fuel in jerry cans for Pangong & beyond.
